Not new news, but San Francisco mayor Gavin Newsom declared that Same-sex marriages were now legal in his city last Tuesday (02/10/04).

Based on that landmark decision, 100's upon 100's of couple flew, drove, and otherwise made thier way to the steps of the courhouse, to apply, and receive thier Licenses, and to get hitched.
Even though this is the Presidents' Day holiday
Newsom vowed to keep issuing licenses and marrying gay couples.

People from all over the country, have started sending flowers to the couples on thier day, which I think is possibly the nicest thing anyone could do.
I can't imagine how anyone could deny this to a loving couple.. especially after seeing thier faces in these photos (anyone you know? Let the photographer know, so he can send them the pics)
Congrats all!

Gotta love it - working on the holiday for other people! That is what public office is all about.
:-)
Last Tuesday Newsom instructed the county clerk to prepare to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples (story). On Thursday, the first license was issued making San Francisco the first city on the country where same-sex couples could legally marry. The first couple to exchange vows were longtime lesbian activists Phyllis Lyon, 79, and Del Martin, 83. The two have been a couple for 51 years.
